How it works

Lensball World places one horizontally centered, bottom-anchored sphere with a full-strength radius of 30% of the short side. Intensity grows its affected area and captured field of view rather than opacity-crossfading two completed scenes: radius follows the square root of intensity, so changed area scales linearly. Inside the antialiased circle, one coherent bilinear RGB coordinate uses a restrained 180-degree equisolid-style projection to compress the prepared frame and turn it upside down. A neutral rim, edge shade, and highlight use source-relative channel limits so they create no new black or white clipping. Every pixel beyond the 1.25-pixel boundary feather remains byte-identical, every nonopaque target and any sample footprint touching transparency are rejected, and working-frame alpha stays byte-exact. The result is a lossless PNG. This is a deterministic single-image illustration with fixed placement—not a measured lens, detected physical ball, ray-traced material, contact shadow, or rebuilt 3D scene.

Best for

wide landscapes, travel views, landmarks, architecture, interiors, and horizon-led scenes with useful detail around the complete frame.

Less suited to: portraits, close subjects, groups, readable text, transparent cutouts, very busy scenes, off-center compositions, and photos that already contain a real sphere; content inside the fixed circle is deliberately compressed and inverted, so a person or object can appear again there by design.

    Why is the image inside the ball upside down?
    The stylised sphere deliberately imitates the inverted view associated with a strong converging glass ball. It compresses the prepared frame into the circle from opposite directions; it does not infer a real camera, focal length, glass index, or scene depth.
    Will it duplicate or deform a face or object?
    Pixels outside the sphere and all working-frame alpha stay byte-exact. Inside the sphere, the scene is intentionally sampled from another coordinate, so a person or object can appear a second time, upside down, as part of the requested lensball composition. It does not detect or reshape anatomy; choose a wide scene rather than a close portrait when that deliberate second view would be distracting.
