Making 1200 × 630 link preview images for Open Graph

When a page is shared on Facebook, the preview image comes from the page's Open Graph image. Facebook's developer documentation recommends images of at least 1200 × 630 pixels for the best display on high-resolution devices, an aspect ratio as close to 1.91:1 as possible so the full image shows in Feed without cropping, and at least 600 × 315 pixels for link posts with larger images. Many other apps read the same og:image tag.

1200 × 630 is about 1.9:1, wider than 16:9, and Extend background with AI does not offer this shape. Keep the aspect lock on and choose a fill instead: a solid brand color behind a centered photo or logo looks deliberate in a preview card, and Blur keeps a photo's mood. Both keep the full 1200 × 630 on every plan, whereas gradient, design and photo backgrounds download at web size on the free plan. For an edge-to-edge image, crop a wide strip from the source before resizing.

Some apps trim previews to a square or a narrower shape, so keep the headline and logo near the middle and make text large enough to read in a phone feed. Export as JPG or PNG and reference the file in the page's og:image tag. If you also need a 16:9 version for slides or video, use the 1280 × 720 size.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 1200x630?
Upload your image — the resizer is pre-set to 1200×630px. Turn off "maintain aspect ratio" for an exact 1200x630 canvas, or keep it on with the blurred-background fill, then download.
What is 1200x630 used for?
1200×630 is commonly used for Open Graph and social share previews.
Will resizing to 1200x630 stretch my photo?

Background

Add Background ColorOn / Off
Pads empty space with a solid color when the target size does not match the photo's proportions, instead of stretching or cropping; it becomes selectable once Use Blur Background is switched off, since only one fill can be active.
Background colorColor picker
Picks the fill color for the padded area — use the color picker, type a hex code, or tap a quick swatch (blue, white, black, light gray). Shown when Add Background Color is on.
Use Blur BackgroundOn / Off
Fills empty space with a softly blurred, zoomed copy of the photo itself so mismatched aspect ratios look natural; on by default, it always keeps the photo's proportions and locks out the solid color fill while active.
Blur IntensitySliderRange: 5–50 · Default: 20
Controls how soft the blurred background fill looks, from 5 (light) to 50 (heavy); higher values make the padding more abstract so the subject stands out. Shown when blur background is on.
