Converting PNG graphics and cut-outs to AVIF
PNG is the usual source for logos, interface screenshots, diagrams and cut-out product shots, and it is often the heaviest image on a page. AVIF keeps transparency, so a cut-out stays cut out, while storing the picture far more compactly. That makes it a good fit for a site you control, and a poor one for files you send to people who may open them in older apps.
The right setting depends on what the PNG shows. Photos and product cut-outs tolerate lossy compression well; start around 70 and compare. Screenshots, text and flat logos are different, because lossy encoding can leave faint smudges beside sharp edges and around lettering. For those, switch on Lossless mode, which keeps every pixel exactly, then check whether the file still beats the PNG; for some flat graphics it may not.
Preview the result in the Website view to see it on a plain page, then switch to Grid to confirm the transparent areas stayed clear. If your platform doesn't take AVIF yet, WebP also keeps transparency with wider support, and compressing the PNG itself is the route that leaves the format alone.
