Why convert SVG to AVIF?

  • Transparent areas stay transparent: AVIF supports smooth, partial transparency just like SVG.
  • AVIF is made for the smallest high-quality images for websites and apps.

What to expect when converting SVG to AVIF

  • AVIF uses lossy compression by default; raise the quality or switch on lossless in Settings for a closer copy.
  • The SVG is drawn at a fixed pixel size, so the AVIF won’t stay sharp if you enlarge it later. Keep the original for editing.

SVG to AVIF for compact, transparent web graphics

AVIF makes sense for SVG artwork that has become heavy as a vector, such as illustrations with thousands of paths or traced photographs, where a raster copy may be lighter than the original. It keeps transparency and usually produces smaller files than PNG or WebP at the same visual quality.

The drawing is rendered with its longest side at 1024 pixels when its declared size is smaller, or at the declared size when larger. Compare that with the space the image fills, remembering that high-density screens show about twice as many pixels across; set a bigger width and height in the SVG first if you need more. Quality starts at 90, and Lossless mode keeps every pixel of flat artwork exact.

Keep the SVG as your master copy and plan a fallback, because many editing apps and older devices cannot open AVIF and some upload forms reject it. Pair it with a WebP version of the same artwork or a PNG rendered at the scale you need.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert SVG to AVIF?
Upload your SVG file above. It is converted to AVIF automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
Does converting SVG to AVIF lose quality?
AVIF is lossy by default, so some fine detail is discarded to make the file smaller. Raise the quality or switch on lossless in Settings for a closer copy.
Will the AVIF keep the transparent background?
Yes. AVIF supports smooth, partial transparency, so transparent areas stay transparent.
SVG or AVIF: which should I use?
Use SVG for logos, icons and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size. Use AVIF for the smallest high-quality images for websites and apps. Keep in mind the main drawback of AVIF: it is slow to create and many editing apps and older devices can’t open it.
What is a SVG file?
SVG describes a picture as shapes and paths instead of pixels, so it stays crisp at any size. Social networks, email apps and many upload forms don’t accept SVG, which is why people convert it.
Is the SVG to AVIF converter free?
Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.

For WebP and AVIF output: keeps every pixel exactly (best for logos, graphics and transparency) at the cost of a larger file.
