Why convert SVG to TIFF?
- Transparent areas stay transparent: TIFF supports smooth, partial transparency just like SVG.
- TIFF is made for print production, scanning and long-term archiving.
What to expect when converting SVG to TIFF
- The SVG is drawn at a fixed pixel size, so the TIFF won’t stay sharp if you enlarge it later. Keep the original for editing.
- Your original SVG file isn’t changed: you download a new TIFF copy.

| Feature | SVG | TIFF |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | Scalable Vector Graphics | Tagged Image File Format |

| Colour | Any colour — shapes are drawn, not stored as pixels | Up to 16 bits per channel, RGB or CMYK |
| Where it opens | Browsers and design tools; many apps and upload forms reject it | Photo editors, print and scanning software; most browsers don’t display it |
| Best for | logos, icons and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size | print production, scanning and long-term archiving |
| Main drawback | it can’t hold photos efficiently and many apps don’t accept it | very large files that web browsers won’t display |
In short: choose SVG for logos, icons and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size; choose TIFF for print production, scanning and long-term archiving.
SVG to TIFF for print and publishing workflows
Some print shops, publishers and document archives want raster TIFF files rather than vector SVG, especially when artwork has to go into a layout system or an archive that does not take SVG. Converting gives a TIFF compressed without any loss, with transparent areas kept.
Resolution is the decision to make before you upload. Artwork declared smaller than 1024 pixels is rendered with its long side at 1024; at the 300 pixels per inch commonly used for print, that covers only about 3.4 inches. For bigger prints, set a larger width and height in the SVG file, or render a PNG at up to 8× scale and convert that PNG to TIFF.
Browsers can't display TIFF, so the page presents the result as a file to download rather than a preview; open it in an image viewer to check edges and colors. The TIFF is saved in RGB, so if the printer requires CMYK, ask whether they convert files on their side.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert SVG to TIFF?
- Upload your SVG file above. It is converted to TIFF automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
- Does converting SVG to TIFF lose quality?
- No. Both formats are lossless, so every pixel is kept exactly.
- Will the TIFF keep the transparent background?
- Yes. TIFF supports smooth, partial transparency, so transparent areas stay transparent.
- SVG or TIFF: which should I use?
- Use SVG for logos, icons and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size. Use TIFF for print production, scanning and long-term archiving. Keep in mind the main drawback of TIFF: very large files that web browsers won’t display.
- What is a SVG file?
- SVG describes a picture as shapes and paths instead of pixels, so it stays crisp at any size. Social networks, email apps and many upload forms don’t accept SVG, which is why people convert it.
- Is the SVG to TIFF converter free?
- Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
