Why convert SVG to PDF?

  • PDF is supported far more widely than SVG, so the file is easier to open, share and upload.
  • The PDF page is sized to your image, so it prints and previews without cropping or extra borders.

What to expect when converting SVG to PDF

  • PDF can’t store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white by default).
  • You get one page per image, with the picture embedded as a high-quality JPEG. To combine several images into one PDF, use the Image to PDF tool.
  • The SVG is drawn at a fixed pixel size, so the PDF won’t stay sharp if you enlarge it later. Keep the original for editing.

What SVG to PDF does on this page, and when to use it

This converter places a rendered picture of the SVG on a single PDF page. That suits sending artwork to someone who only opens PDFs, attaching a graphic to an application that accepts PDF files only, or printing a quick proof. It does not produce a vector PDF: the drawing becomes pixels, so it will not stay crisp when zoomed far in, and any text in it cannot be selected.

Small artwork is drawn with its long side at 1024 pixels and larger artwork at its declared size, then stored in the PDF as a JPG, with transparent areas filled by the Background fill color, white by default. The page has the proportions of the image at one point per pixel, so a 1024-pixel drawing makes a page about 14 inches across; pick fit to page when printing.

When a printer asks for vector artwork, send the SVG itself or export a PDF from the design app that made it. To put several graphics into one document, render them as PNG and combine the images into a single PDF; to shrink the file for email, compress the PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert SVG to PDF?
Upload your SVG file above. It is converted to PDF automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
Does converting SVG to PDF lose quality?
The image is embedded in the PDF as a high-quality JPEG at its full pixel size.
Will the PDF keep the transparent background?
No. PDF can’t store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white by default).
SVG or PDF: which should I use?
Use SVG for logos, icons and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size. Use PDF for emailing, printing and attaching images to forms and applications. Keep in mind the main drawback of PDF: the picture isn’t editable as an image until you convert it back.
What is a SVG file?
SVG describes a picture as shapes and paths instead of pixels, so it stays crisp at any size. Social networks, email apps and many upload forms don’t accept SVG, which is why people convert it.
Can I put several SVG images into one PDF?
This converter makes one PDF page per image. To combine several images into one PDF, use the Image to PDF tool.
Is the SVG to PDF converter free?
Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
