Why convert WebP to TIFF?
- TIFF is lossless, so the converted image loses no further detail when you edit and save it again.
- Transparent areas stay transparent: TIFF supports smooth, partial transparency just like WebP.
- TIFF is made for print production, scanning and long-term archiving.
What to expect when converting WebP to TIFF
- TIFF can’t hold this animation, so an animated WebP is saved as its first frame.
- Converting can’t bring back detail that WebP compression already removed: the TIFF is an exact copy of the image as it is, usually in a bigger file.

Archiving or printing a WebP image as TIFF
WebP images usually arrive from the web: a product photo from a supplier's site, artwork from an online gallery, a picture saved from a news page. Print services, publishing workflows and archive systems commonly ask for TIFF and rarely take WebP. Converting gives them a format they can file, with the pixels stored losslessly and transparency kept.
Be realistic about resolution. Web images are sized for screens, and the TIFF keeps the WebP's exact pixel dimensions along with any softness from lossy compression. Dividing the width in pixels by 300 tells you roughly how many inches will print sharply. If you need print quality, ask the source for the original file; enlarging with AI can help when there is none.
An animated WebP becomes a single TIFF of its first frame. Because browsers can't open TIFF, the result appears as a download card with its size; check it in a desktop viewer. For an editable lossless copy that previews anywhere, PNG is the lighter choice.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert WebP to TIFF?
- Upload your WebP file above. It is converted to TIFF automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
- Does converting WebP to TIFF lose quality?
- No new loss is added: TIFF stores the picture exactly as it is. Detail that WebP compression removed earlier can’t be restored.
- Will the TIFF keep the transparent background?
- Yes. TIFF supports smooth, partial transparency, so transparent areas stay transparent.
- Will the animation be kept?
- No. TIFF can’t hold animation, so an animated WebP is saved as its first frame.
- WebP or TIFF: which should I use?
- Use WebP for websites, online stores and blogs that need fast-loading images. Use TIFF for print production, scanning and long-term archiving. Keep in mind the main drawback of TIFF: very large files that web browsers won’t display.
- What is a WebP file?
- WebP was designed by Google for the web. Google measured lossy WebP files at 25–34% smaller than comparable JPGs, and WebP also handles transparency and animation.
- Is the WebP to TIFF converter free?
- Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
