Why convert SVG to BMP?

  • BMP is made for older Windows programs, embedded devices and tools that need raw pixels.
  • BMP needs no decoding, so very simple or older software can display it.

What to expect when converting SVG to BMP

  • BMP can’t store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white by default).
  • The SVG is drawn at a fixed pixel size, so the BMP won’t stay sharp if you enlarge it later. Keep the original for editing.

In short: choose SVG for logos, icons and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size; choose BMP for older Windows programs, embedded devices and tools that need raw pixels.

SVG to BMP for programs that only read bitmaps

BMP serves software that predates modern formats or reads pixels directly, such as older Windows programs, embedded devices and simple tools that need raw image data. Converting an SVG icon or logo gives those programs an uncompressed 24-bit bitmap they can load without any decoding.

Two things change on the way. BMP has no transparency, so transparent areas take the Background fill color, white unless you choose another in Settings; for a device with a black screen, set the fill to black so the icon does not arrive inside a white square. Size changes too: small SVGs are rendered with a 1024-pixel long side, and uncompressed pixels take three bytes each, so a 1024 × 1024 icon becomes a BMP of about 3 MB.

Because small artwork is enlarged to 1024 pixels, an exact small size such as 128 × 64 needs an extra step. Set that size as the width and height in the SVG, render it as a PNG at 1× scale, which keeps the declared size, then convert that PNG to BMP. Test the bitmap in the target program before you copy it to a device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert SVG to BMP?
Upload your SVG file above. It is converted to BMP automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
Does converting SVG to BMP lose quality?
No. Both formats are lossless, so every pixel is kept exactly.
Will the BMP keep the transparent background?
No. BMP can’t store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white by default).
SVG or BMP: which should I use?
Use SVG for logos, icons and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size. Use BMP for older Windows programs, embedded devices and tools that need raw pixels. Keep in mind the main drawback of BMP: very large files and no transparency.
What is a SVG file?
SVG describes a picture as shapes and paths instead of pixels, so it stays crisp at any size. Social networks, email apps and many upload forms don’t accept SVG, which is why people convert it.
Is the SVG to BMP converter free?
Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
