Exterior Paint Visualizer

Generative output can vary; review the full result before publishing

Exterior paint is judged from a chip the size of a stamp and then applied to a surface the size of a house, which is why the result so often surprises owners. Photograph the elevation and see the body, trim and door colors together at full scale, in the light of your photo.

Building a paint scheme around brick, stone and roof you are keeping

Every exterior scheme has fixed colors: the roof, any brick or stone, the driveway, sometimes the windows. List them before choosing anything, since the paint has to work with what is not changing. Then assign roles in your instruction rather than naming one color: body, trim, accent (shutters or gable), and front door. 'Body in warm greige, trim in soft white, shutters and door in deep green, keep the red brick base' gives the AI a scheme to follow.

Paint only what you mean to paint. Choose Refine area manually and cover the siding and trim while leaving brick, stone, glass and the roof unpainted; outside the painted area the photo stays untouched. Brick deserves a separate decision, because painting it is very hard to undo; if you test painted brick, run it as its own version so it is not mixed into a body-color comparison.

To decide between schemes, run three on the same photo, download each, and lay them out side by side in one image to share with a partner or client. When paint is part of a bigger front-of-house refresh with landscaping and a new door, the curb appeal project page covers that combined brief.

Exterior paint visualizer: try body, trim and door colors on a photo of your house

This exterior paint visualizer repaints the walls, trim and door in a photo of your own house, so you can compare color schemes at full scale in the light you actually have. Upload one elevation, name each color and surface, and check the result against the original. It changes color only. Prep work, paint quality and how a color weathers are not part of the picture.

Write the scheme as three lines

Most exterior schemes are three decisions: the body, the trim and an accent for the door or shutters. Give each one a line with the surface and a plain description of the color, for example body in warm greige, trim in crisp off-white, front door in deep green.

  1. Open Custom instructions (optional) and keep the prepared sentence in place.
  2. Add the three lines for body, trim and door after it.
  3. Press Generate Text-based edit and look at the roof and the paving first.
  4. Use Edit again to change one line and leave the other two as they are.

Let the light in your photo do the judging

Paint changes more with light than with anything else. A wall in shade looks cooler and darker than the same wall in afternoon sun. Take the photo in the light you most often see the house in, or take two, one in the morning and one in the evening, and run the same scheme on each. If both pictures work, the color will probably survive the day. If one fails, you have learned that before buying a sample pot.

Paint only the surfaces you named

When the roof, the stone base or the planting starts to change, switch to Refine area manually and brush the walls only. The painted area appears in pink and pixels outside it stay as photographed. For a trim-only or door-only test, paint just those narrow parts with a small brush, zoom in for the thin lines around windows, and use Erase to clean up where a stroke touched the glass.

Pair the scheme with what is staying

The scheme is only half the decision; the other half is whatever you are not repainting: roof, paving, brick, stone, gutters. Put those into the sentence as fixed facts, such as keep the gray slate roof and the red-brown brick base as they are, and check they came back unchanged. Where the roof or the wall material is also in doubt, settle the roof or the siding first.

Look for these in the result

  • The roof, paving and planting keep the colors they have in your photo.
  • Window glass was not painted along with the frames.
  • Trim reads as a different color from the body wherever you asked for one.

Frequently asked questions

How close are the colors to a real paint chip?
Near enough to shortlist, and no substitute for a sample pot. Every screen renders color differently, and exterior paint shifts dramatically between morning light, direct sun and an overcast day. Narrow it to two here, then paint a large patch on the house and look at it across a full day.
Can I change the trim without changing the body?
Yes. Describe them separately and the prompt asks the AI to repaint only what you name. To be sure the body stays as it is, paint just the trim, soffits and door with Refine area manually — pixels outside a painted area are kept as they were. That is usually the cheaper decision, and one many owners never think to visualize.
Will it keep my roof and landscaping?
The prompt asks the AI to keep everything you have not asked it to change, including the roof, the paving and the planting, but without a painted area it redraws the whole photo, so check them — or paint only the walls with Refine area manually to keep the rest as it was. That matters because a body color is only right in relation to a roof that is not being replaced, and testing the paint against a blank background hides exactly that.
Does a dark exterior color really fade faster?
Deep colors do generally hold up less well in strong sun, and heat gain on a dark wall is real, but the specifics depend on the paint line, the substrate and the exposure of the wall. Ask the supplier about the actual product before committing to a dark scheme on a sun-facing elevation.
How do I describe a paint color so the result matches what I mean?
Use plain words for tone and undertone, such as warm light gray, deep blue-green or soft cream, and add one reference from the photo, like lighter than the brick. A paint code or a brand name is a less dependable input, because the picture is drawn from your description. Keep the real code on your shopping list separately.
Can I try painted brick or stucco?
The picture will show it, because it treats the wall as a surface to recolor. It cannot tell you whether the brick or stucco should be painted, what preparation it needs or how hard painted masonry is to undo. Ask a painter about the surface before you take the idea further.
Why does the whole house look lighter or darker than my photo?
The AI redraws the photo from your instruction and may shift exposure along with color. Compare the sky and the unpainted parts with your original. If they changed, paint the walls with Refine area manually, or run again with a line asking to keep the lighting and everything else as it is.
Can I change window frame and gutter colors as well?
Yes, add a line for each, such as black window frames and gutters matched to the trim. They are narrow details, so zoom in on the result to see whether they changed correctly. If they disappear or turn into the wall color, run them again as a separate step.
Can I test one color scheme on several photos of the same house?
Batch images, a Premium option, runs one instruction across several photos and returns the results together, which suits front, side and rear views with one scheme. The painted-area control belongs to single-image runs, so use it for repairs on one photo at a time.
Can a painter present color options to a customer with this?
Yes, as an illustration of the color idea, shown with the real sample cards. It is not a color specification or a promise about coverage or finish, so write the actual paint product and color on the estimate.
