In short: choose JFIF for nothing a JPG can’t do — it holds the same image data; choose PDF for emailing, printing and attaching images to forms and applications.

Submitting a JFIF image as a PDF document

Online applications and claim forms frequently accept PDF but reject .jfif, even though the picture inside is an everyday JPEG. That often catches people who saved a scanned ID, certificate or receipt from an email opened in the browser on Windows. Converting wraps the image in a one-page PDF that the form will take.

The page matches the image's shape, with no added margins, and the image inside is stored as a JPEG at the quality you choose. Leaving the slider at 90 keeps a document photo close to the original; lower it if the form has a strict size limit, or compress the finished PDF into a smaller file.

If the form asks for an image file instead of a document, JFIF to JPG is the fix. When an application wants several pages, such as the front and back of a card, put both images in one PDF, which also offers A4 and Letter page sizes.
