Why convert JFIF to TIFF?

  • TIFF is lossless, so the converted image loses no further detail when you edit and save it again.
  • TIFF is made for print production, scanning and long-term archiving.

What to expect when converting JFIF to TIFF

  • Converting can’t bring back detail that JFIF compression already removed: the TIFF is an exact copy of the image as it is, usually in a bigger file.
  • Your original JFIF file isn’t changed: you download a new TIFF copy.

In short: choose JFIF for nothing a JPG can’t do — it holds the same image data; choose TIFF for print production, scanning and long-term archiving.

Filing JFIF images as TIFF in document and print systems

Document-management systems, records departments and print vendors often specify TIFF. If the images you received or saved are .jfif, such as forms someone downloaded from a web portal or photos collected for a brochure, converting them to TIFF meets the requirement without changing the picture.

The TIFF stores the decoded JPEG pixels losslessly, so later saves add no further loss, but the compression already baked into the JFIF stays. Expect a much larger file. The pixel dimensions are unchanged, so compare them with whatever minimum the vendor or records system states before you submit.

This page turns one image into one single-page TIFF. If the system accepts PDF and you have several scanned pages, combine them into one PDF; for text you can search and copy, make a searchable PDF. The browser can't preview TIFF, so open the download on your computer to check it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert JFIF to TIFF?
Upload your JFIF file above. It is converted to TIFF automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
Does converting JFIF to TIFF lose quality?
No new loss is added: TIFF stores the picture exactly as it is. Detail that JFIF compression removed earlier can’t be restored.
JFIF or TIFF: which should I use?
Use JFIF for nothing a JPG can’t do — it holds the same image data. Use TIFF for print production, scanning and long-term archiving. Keep in mind the main drawback of TIFF: very large files that web browsers won’t display.
What is a JFIF file?
A .jfif file is a JPEG with an unusual extension; Windows and some browsers save web images this way. The picture is identical to a .jpg, but many sites and apps refuse the .jfif name.
Is the JFIF to TIFF converter free?
Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
