Why convert PSD to PDF?
- PDF is supported far more widely than PSD, so the file is easier to open, share and upload.
- The PDF page is sized to your image, so it prints and previews without cropping or extra borders.
- No Photoshop needed: the file is opened on our servers and you download a ready-to-use PDF.
What to expect when converting PSD to PDF
- PDF can’t store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white by default).
- You get one page per image, with the picture embedded as a high-quality JPEG. To combine several images into one PDF, use the Image to PDF tool.
- Layers are merged: you get the image as it looks with all visible layers combined.

Sending a PSD as a PDF proof that anyone can open
A PDF is the easiest way to show a Photoshop design to a client, a teacher or a print buyer who doesn't own Photoshop. It opens in the viewer built into browsers and phones, and it can go into forms that only take documents. The converter produces a single page holding the merged visible layers as one image. It is not a layered or editable PDF: text layers are part of the picture, so the words can't be selected, searched or corrected.
Inside the PDF the picture is stored as a JPG, and the quality slider in Settings controls how strongly it is compressed. Transparent areas are filled with the Background fill color, white by default. The page takes the exact proportions of the image at one PDF point per pixel, so a 3,000-pixel-wide design becomes a page about 41 inches across; choose fit to page in the print dialog when you print a proof.
Presenting several designs or variations? Convert each PSD to PNG, then combine the images into one PDF in the order you want to show them. If the finished file is too heavy for email, shrink it with the email preset.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert PSD to PDF?
- Upload your PSD file above. It is converted to PDF automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
- Does converting PSD to PDF lose quality?
- The image is embedded in the PDF as a high-quality JPEG at its full pixel size.
- Will the PDF keep the transparent background?
- No. PDF can’t store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white by default).
- PSD or PDF: which should I use?
- Use PSD for editing in Photoshop with layers, masks and effects intact. Use PDF for emailing, printing and attaching images to forms and applications. Keep in mind the main drawback of PDF: the picture isn’t editable as an image until you convert it back.
- What is a PSD file?
- PSD keeps every Photoshop layer, mask and adjustment so a design stays editable. Outside Photoshop most apps can’t show it, so a flattened copy is needed for sharing.
- Can I put several PSD images into one PDF?
- This converter makes one PDF page per image. To combine several images into one PDF, use the Image to PDF tool.
- Is the PSD to PDF converter free?
- Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
