Why convert TIFF to PDF?
- PDF is supported far more widely than TIFF, so the file is easier to open, share and upload.
- The PDF page is sized to your image, so it prints and previews without cropping or extra borders.
What to expect when converting TIFF to PDF
- PDF can’t store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white by default).
- You get one page per image, with the picture embedded as a high-quality JPEG. To combine several images into one PDF, use the Image to PDF tool.
- Only the first page of a multi-page TIFF is converted, and CMYK print colour becomes standard RGB.

TIFF to PDF: scans and faxes as a PDF page, first page only
Scanners, fax software and document systems save TIFF, while most people you send documents to expect PDF. This page puts the TIFF image on a PDF page that opens in any browser or phone viewer. Know one limit before you start: when the TIFF holds several pages, as faxes and multi-sheet scans often do, only the first page is converted.
For a multi-page document, save each page as its own image in your scanning or fax program, then combine them into one PDF, where you can also pick A4 or Letter paper and a margin. On this page, the page size comes from the scan's pixels at one point per pixel, so a letter page scanned at 300 dpi (2550 × 3300 pixels) becomes a PDF page of about 35 × 46 inches; printing with fit-to-page scaling brings it back to paper size.
Inside, the scan is held as a JPEG that follows the quality slider (90 to start); lower it for a lighter file, or compress the finished PDF. The result is a picture of the text rather than text you can search, so for selectable words, make a searchable PDF from the scan.
